Ingredients
1/2 pound butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp ginger
3 tsp cloves
3 tsp cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp hot water
Sanding sugar
Preheat oven to 325°F.
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, add egg.
Sift flour with baking powder and spices. Mix hot water with baking soda and add in molasses. Add molasses mixture to butter and sugar, fold in dry ingredients. With mixer on medium speed work dough until shiny.
Between 2 pieces of parchment paper roll out into 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with favorite cookie cutters and decorate with sanding sugar. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Store in airtight container for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
